Day Habilitation Helps You Reach Your Goals
Day Habilitation offers you activities and learning opportunities outside your home. Our program focuses on teaching the skills you need to reach your personal goals. We help you become as independent as possible and achieve outcomes that are meaningful to you.
Our program sites are safe places where you can socialize, learn job and academic skills, or do volunteer work to help others. You’ll have something to look forward to every day.
What will I learn at Day Habilitation?
You will work on the skills needed to achieve the milestones you set. For some, this will be learning how to take the subway to a job. For others, the goal may be to become more socially aware. Part of each day is spent volunteering to help others in the community.
Who can attend Day Habilitation?
If OPWDD (the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) has determined that you are eligible for Day Habilitation and if you have a Medicaid Waiver, you can attend Day Habilitation. Contact us at intake@hhcsny.org if you need help with either OPWDD or Medicaid.
Can I drop in whenever I want to?
Our Day Hab programs are not drop-in programs. Day Hab is similar to a job in that individuals who are part of the program are expected to have a 95% attendance rate.
When is Day Habilitation in session?
Our programs operate from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, year round.
Can you help me get a job?
If your goal is to get a job, we will work on the skills you need, such as money management, filling out an application, following directions, independent travel, time management, and increasing self-advocacy.
If I don’t want a job, should I still participate in Day Habilitation?
Yes. Our Day Habilitation Program lets you choose the goals you want to reach. Then we help you learn the skills you need to reach your goals, no matter what they are. Our program is a safe place to socialize and learn in a group setting.
The program also offer volunteer opportunities so you can get out into the community and have the satisfaction of helping others. Whatever activities you participate in, our trained and caring staff will be on hand to guide you on the road to your achievement.
How do I get there?
Transportation is provided from your home to our program sites in Brooklyn and Queens.
